Making News In Japan

Our home has made it onto the pages of another new Japanese interior book, A Girly Interior in London, published by Editions de Paris.  Just inside the front cover there is a beautifully illustrated map that puts Stoke Newington right up there where it belongs as an exciting and diverse London neighbourhood.  We have already been asked if we can get hold of some prints of the London map for friends and customers in Stoke Newington so I will see what I can do.

When stylist Emma Cassi came to visited us in East London she was stunned by the cherry blossom mural in Olives bedroom.  A mural as grand as this is a big statement but we really pulled it off. I think that there is a fine line between a mural that really works and one that is too twee or too contrived or quite frankly just not painted very well.  I consider myself to be incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful scenic artist Susanna Burton who bought my ideas to life quite beautifully. It’s A Pop Up Christmas In Stoki

Filed under: Christmas Ideas, Favourite shops, Stoke Newington N16, events — ashlyn @ 6:08 pm

You don’t need to go further than Stoke Newington to do your Christmas shopping this year.  If you haven’t ventured here before now is as good a time as any.  It’s full of independent shops and independent spirit without any of the frantic pace of high streets in and around London.

Rude are back this year, right around the corner from Olive Loves Alfie, with their new pop up shop in conjunction with retro furniture emporium The Cobbled Yard.  Inside their wonderland you will find interior wares and a collection of ‘Rude’ limited edition screen prints, original artwork and Christmas trees.  Open ever Saturday and Sunday in December and 21, 22 and 23 from 12 to 5.

A few of my local favourites are:-

Nanadobbie the 50’s to 70’s retro furniture shop with a great stock of original rock and pop posters.

Pictures and Light where I have found some of my favourite pieces of G Plan furniture.

Hub Women’s Wear that sells some of my favourite contemporary designers Ally Capellino, Comfort Station, Mackintosh and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel.

Hub Men’s Wear stock a fantastic range of contemporary men’s wear from the likes of Folk, Acne, Anthony Peto and Fred Perry.

Shine Holistic for one of many alternative therapies available there or new hair do.

Hop on the number 73 bus from The Angel or drive here with free parking after 1pm on Saturday and all day Sunday.
